Private Swim Dog Training*
Did
you know swimming
is one of the safest and most
physically beneficial exercises for your dog?
What is Private
Swim Dog Training?
Private Swim Dog Training is swimming classes for your dog. Did you know that
over 10,000 dogs per year die from drowning? It's important for you to teach
your dog pool rules and teach them how to swim properly and safely.
Swim Dog Training allows the trainer to condition and train your dog to swim properly. Dogs come once a day for five days in a row, 30 minutes per day. During that time dogs begin the process of learning to swim strongly and safely. They also are introduced to pool entrance rules - don't get in the pool without permission.
Along with training, proper fitting safety equipment (floatation vest) is typically used for the first few sessions to assist in conditioning the dog to swim powerfully, calmly and safely.
Owners are given details on how to set boundries and rules for the dog at their home, or whereever water is present.
How many
sessions will I need?
Generally, most dogs will thrive in a one week package. Some dogs
will require more sessions at YesPup. All dogs and owners will need to practice
after the first five sessions to keep the dog is a safe state. We highly recommend
a "Pool Permission" toy (a large, floating ball is preferred), which
will be reviewed during your training sessions.
How much
do I have to work with my dog once the swim train is complete?
Training depends greatly on the dog's natual, instincutal abilities. It's
important to note that even breeds traditionally known as "swimmers"
like Retreivers can ALL benefit from formal swim lessons to gains strength,
stabliity and responsiveness.
Is there
a good age start Private Swim Dog Training?
We recommend starting as soon as your get your puppy, or your pool!
Are there
breeds not suited for Private Swim Dog Training?
Some
breeds are not suited for free swimming, but once trained to swim with appropriate
floatation vest, they can learn to enjoy safe, supervised swimming.. Brachycephalic
/ short nosed breeds (like - Pekingese, Lhasa Apso, etc) and deep chested
/ large barreled breeds (like English Bulldogs, French Bulldogs) are not candidates
for free swim, but can be taught to swim using proper fitting floatation vests.
In some cases, we teach owners how to practice pool safety, teaching dogs "pool avoidance".
*We recommend dogs only be allowed to swim under supervision.
